Diabetic retinopathy is a disease in the retina that can eventually cause blindness. The more number of years a person has diabetic retinopathy, more the amount of risk for diabetic retinopathy. It is the leading cause for blindness for people from 20 to 65 years. Atleast 90% of the causes can be reduced if it has been offered the right treatment. That is why you need to check your eyes regularly.
We do diabetic retinopathy screening once a month. Patients identified with vision-threatening diabetic retinopathy are offered free treatment under Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme.
